BIOGRAPHY

CARLOS BALBOA (TORREÓN, 1989) IS A VISUAL ARTIST WHO STUDIED INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AT THE TECNOLÓGICO DE MONTERREY, GUADALAJARA CAMPUS. HE HAS DEVELOPED HIS PROFESSIONAL CAREER WITH COMPLEMENTARY TRAINING IN ART, HAVING BEEN A FELLOW AT THE ZAPOPAN MUSEUM OF ART (MAZ) AND STUDYING AT THE SOTHEBY’S INSTITUTE OF ART. HIS EXPERIENCE AS A PROJECT MANAGER AT CÓRDOVA PLAZA AND HIS PARTICIPATION IN THE CURATORIAL SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR ARTISTS AT ESPACIO CABEZA HAVE STRENGTHENED HIS MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH. HIS WORK HAS BEEN EXHIBITED IN VARIOUS GROUP SHOWS, INCLUDING ABC ART BAJA IN BAJA CALIFORNIA; THE ZAPOPAN SCULPTURE ROUTE; MANIFIESTO GALLERY IN GUADALAJARA; AND IMPULSO GALERÍA IN QUERÉTARO, AMONG OTHERS.

THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY, SCULPTURE, AND INSTALLATION, HIS ARTISTIC PRACTICE UNFOLDS AS A SPACE OF EXPLORATION WHERE THE HUMAN SUBJECTIVITY, IN ITS CONSTANT PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTION, PERCEPTION, AND TRANSFORMATION, CONDITIONED BY THE FLOW OF STIMULI, TRAUMAS, AND AFFECTS THAT TRAVERSE THE SUBJECT, SHAPES OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE ENVIRONMENT AND WITH OTHERS. THROUGH DELIBERATE IMAGES AND NATURAL SYMBOLS, BALBOA MATERIALIZES PROCESSES OF INTIMATE REVOLUTION THAT ALSO RESONATE ON A COLLECTIVE LEVEL. THUS, HIS WORK BECOMES A REFLECTION OF SOCIAL REALITY AND ITS LIMITS, BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL, REIMAGINING IN A POETIC KEY OTHER WAYS OF SEEING AND INHABITING THE WORLD.

HE LIVES AND WORKS IN GUADALAJARA.
